At Wahroonga Physiotherapy, we use a combination of hands on techniques to treat your pain and restore your normal function.
All our physiotherapists are highly experienced and use their years of training and expertise in a variety of treatments which may include – Gentle joint and nerve mobilisation, massage or dry needling, Muscle Energy Techniques to correct rib, pelvic and spinal joint dysfunctions, Feldenkrais Methods or Mulligan Concept.
If your assessment highlights a restriction in your abdominal cavity, such as a scar from an operation, we may use visceral mobilisation technique to release the scar and associated soft tissue. This is a very gentle technique and allows for a deeper release of musculo-skeletal structures that may be involved with your internal organs.
Or, your therapist may identify restrictions in nerve tissue or a lack of cranial mobility, and may use cranio-sacral mobilisation techniques. Cranio-sacral Therapy uses light touch and gentle manual therapy techniques to improve cranial mobility and ease neural tension by addressing the cranio-sacral system. The nerves and fluid that surrounds the spinal cord protects and nourish the brain and this gentle treatment can be effective in treating headaches, migraines, chronic neck and back pain, TMJ and whiplash injuries.
Acupuncture & Dry Needling
Believed to have originated in China 3000 years ago, acupuncture is a holistic treatment that uses very fine, sterile, needles, inserted superficially into muscles and soft tissue.
By inserting a dry needle into an appropriate acupuncture point, pain relief can be achieved. It has been acknowledged by medical science for over 50 years, that active trigger points cause pain. Scientific trials have demonstrated reflexive relaxation of peripheral nerve endings can be achieved with dry needling. Acupuncture can stimulate or depress certain musculo-skeletal, myofascial and visceral (organ) structures, and by combining dry needling and traditional acupuncture points, we can work at a deeper level.
All our physiotherapists at Wahroonga Physiotherapy are highly experienced at treating with this holistic and very effective treatment approach.
Our organs (or viscera) are supported inside our body by an array of ligaments and other connective tissue, as well as being supplied by nerves and blood vessels working together to allow the normal and healthy function and movement of our internal viscera (organs). Abdominal surgeries or direct trauma to your abdomen or torso i.e. a rugby tackle, can cause scarring and adhesions or altered visceral movements, leading to pain and dysfunction in your musculo-skeletal system.
Visceral mobilisation/manipulation is a gentle manual technique where an experienced therapist uses light, specifically placed pressure to encourage normal mobility, tone and motion of the visceral (internal organs) and their connective tissue that support each organ onto our skeleton.
Visceral Manipulation has been developed and researched by Jean Paul Barral and is taught in Australia by the Barral Institute.

At Wahroonga Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic, we take a holistic approach to Injury Repair and Prevention. We also believe we live in a very stressful and polluted world, so we are happy to be able to provide our clients with the chance to detox/relax and experience the benefits of a full spectrum Infrared sauna. Unlike hot, stifling traditional steam saunas, which use heated air to warm the body, infrared light penetrates tissues directly causing the body to sweat without heating the ambient air.
